In line with its reputation of being one of the Best Private Universities in Nigeria, the Redeemer’s University Ede, recently organized a workshop to educate, inform and sensitize all academics in the institution, on the new Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS) sensitization, as directed by National Universities Commission (NUC).
Speaking at the workshop which heralded the commencement of academic activities for the 2023/2024 academic session, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ahmed Yerima stated that the workshop was imperative given the new curriculum standards as dictated by the NUC. He further noted that understanding the requirements would aid easy adoption and adherence by all academics. Prof. Yerima further noted that “if Redeemer’s University will maintain its place in the comity of leading private universities in Nigeria, then the crop of distinguished academic staff which it currently boasts, must ensure the robustness in content and delivery of academic training which the students receive”.
Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the CCMAS workshop, Prof. Olalere Adeyemi stated that, it is a new invention by the NUC to make Minimum Academic Standard (MAS) richer “CCMAS will help to maintain the uniqueness of each university in Nigeria.”
The robust workshop saw the delivery and discussion of topics such as Traditional and Modern Methods of Teaching in higher Education; Teaching Large Classes; Effective Delivery and Assessment of the 30% to CCMAS; Teaching 21st Century Skills and Effective use of technology for implementing the CCMAS. Other topics treated included Effective supervision of teaching practice, SIWES and internship; Using Variety of Pedagogies Beyond the Lecture; Delivery of practical and other laboratory activities, Delivering the CCMAS via ODL, and hybrid modes and Effective teaching of Entrepreneurship and General Studies.
