Redeemer’s University hosts a one-day Workshop for all security personnel on campus, the workshop tagged ‘School Safety and Personal Protective Skills’ was held recently at the Postgraduate School. Speaking at the event, Bashorun Atinuke, the Assistant Commandant (ACC) of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corp (NSCDC), addresses the issue of “Basic Security Concept: Security Awareness and Consciousness.” She discussed extensively with the staff and security officers about security awareness and consciousness. She admonished everyone to be security conscious and advised that people are not to leave the work of securing the environment and safeguarding life and properties to security personnel alone. “Every individual should beef up security in other to keep life and property secured.”
While delivering his opening speech, the Provost, Redeemer’s University College of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Olalere Adeyemi appreciated the security personnels from NSCDC and all other security officers in attendance, he emphasized the importance of continuous professional development for security staff and encouraged them to stay steadfast in their efforts to protect the university community.
He explained that the role of security staff extends beyond just guarding gates or buildings. He further added that It involves being proactive, vigilant, and always ready to swiftly and effectively respond to emergencies. “This workshop is a step towards equipping you with the necessary tools and knowledge to handle any security situation that may arise.”
The different topics discussed at the workshop include personal protective skills, emergency response protocols, and conflict resolution techniques. Several security officers shared their experiences and discussed challenges faced in ensuring campus safety.
In conclusion, while providing answers to questions asked at the workshop, ACC Bashorun reiterated the significance of teamwork and collaboration between security personnel and the entire university community. She encouraged everyone to report suspicious activities and always be on the lookout for anything that could compromise safety.
