Redeemer’s University Host CIPM 6th Annual Branch Conference

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), Osun State Branch, recently held its 6th Annual Branch Conference at Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun state. The conference with the theme: Putting out the fire: a Human Resources Management Challenge in Nigeria, was aimed at addressing key challenges in Human Resources (HR) management in Nigeria.

Mr. Kola Oyeniran, the Overseeing Officer, Prototype Engineering Development Institute (PEDI), Ilesa, in his keynote speech, stated the importance of putting out the fire in an organization. He advised Human Resources experts to have and use policy documents for recruitment in their organization. A human resource policy document contains defining skills an employee requires to perform a task; it should be the first level of engagement, he said. According to the Human Resource expert, “Do not engage an employee without setting out the roles and schedule of the job description for such a staff”.

The Vice-Chancellor, Redeemer’s University, Prof. Shadrach Akindele, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ahmed Yerima, welcomed members of the Institute to the event and urged them to pay good attention and enjoy the event. Also speaking at the event, Prof. Kabiru Aderemi Adeyemo, in his talk on “Conflict Resolution, Crisis Management & Mediation,” emphasized the importance of proactive leadership and creating a culture of respect. He urged administrators to listen more, resolve conflicts through learning, and stabilize employees’ well-being.

Prof. Olusola Iyabode Akinbobola, who is an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Manager and the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Redeemer’s University, spoke on “Talent Management, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: Issues of Employee Engagement,” highlighted the need to recruit, develop, and retain talent, while also addressing issues like employee burnout and disengagement. Also, Mr. Henry Olufadejin Ayodele, a Fellow of the Institute, addressed the participants on “Strategic Leadership in the Age of HR Technology and Data Analytics.” He stressed the role of HR analytics in driving informed decisions and strategic leadership to align organizational goals with employee’s needs.

The event provided insights into the evolving role of HR in navigating conflicts, managing talent, and leveraging data-driven strategies. Present at the event was the Registrar, Redeemer’s University, Mrs Mojisola Oje; the Librarian, Dr. Akinniyi Adeleke; the Acting Bursar, Mrs Patience Saliu; the Chaplain, Pastor Seyi Alakija; Acting Director, Directorate of Student Support and Service, Mr. David Akintola; and other dignitaries.
