Proactive Security Measures Better Than Paying Ransom- Brigadier General

The new Commander of the Nigerian Army Engineering Command Ede, Brigadier General Aliyu AbdulKareem, has called on citizens of Osun State to adopt proactive security measures to avert threats to lives and properties of individuals and institutions in the state.

            The General made this statement recently, during a courtesy visit to the Redeemer’s University Ede, in a bid to collaborate with the university in the area of security. He stated the readiness of the command in supporting the institution on security matters as the need arises. “Do not hesitate to notify the army command to bring to light any security situation that is bothersome before it gets out of hand,” he said.

            The Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ahmed Yerima, appreciated the Command’s visit and pledged the institution’s cooperation to keep working with security agencies to protect lives and properties within and around Osun State.

            In a related development, the Division Officer, Ede-South, Osun State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Oladosun Olajide SP recently paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Redeemer’s University.

            The visit, according to the command, was to collaborate with the institution, pledging their continued support to maintaining peace and sanity within Ede, Osun State and its environs. While welcoming the leadership of the command, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shadrach Akindele, appreciated the agency’s offer to collaborate with the institution. He lauded the leadership of the NSCDC for their cooperation in the past, saying that their activities together with other security agencies have gone a long way in maintaining peace within and outside the university community. He also congratulated the new commander, who in turn promised to work assiduously with the institution to enhance the security situation in Ede.

            The NSCDC team leader promised to organize workshops to further train citizens for better security cooperation in society. “We will be available to help curb the menace caused by Herdsmen and those who break into the school premises at night,” he said.
