Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTB) has applauded Redeemer’s University for keeping the Physiotherapy profession alive by providing quality teachers and equipment necessary to train physiotherapy students despite the “Japa Syndrome.”
The Council also appreciated the University for producing the workforce that will solve societal problems.
The Registrar, Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board of Nigeria (MRTB), Prof. Ahmad Rufai made this statement during the 2nd Induction Ceremony of twenty-two (22) graduating students into the Physiotherapy profession for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy, held recently at the University Event Centre, Ede Osun State.
In his address, Dr Ahmad Rufai, commended the university for producing quality physiotherapists on a yearly basis, “Redeemer’s University does not just produce graduates; they make sure that the quality of the graduate is good”, he said.
Rufai told the inductees to be focused and be determined to get to the peak of their career. He, however, urged them to have an area of specialisation, adding that it is unethical not to have a specialised area as a physiotherapist because “specialisation is the key,” he said.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Shadrach Akindele, who was represented by the Chairman, Committee of Deans of the University, Prof. Uchechukwu Vincent urged the inductees to uphold the values instilled in them by the University. He encouraged the inductees to live out the lessons they had learned and to always collaborate with their peers by doing everything to the glory of God.
Prof. O. G. Sokunbi from Bayero University, Kano, during his keynote speech addressed the inductees on the theme “The Emerging Physiotherapist in an Unlimited World.” He highlighted the importance of telehealth services, virtual reality, robotics, and AI in enhancing patient care. He urged the inductees to stay updated with cutting-edge technology, collaborating with others, and leave a positive mark wherever they go.
In his remark, the Dean, Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Prof. Olumide Olukanni, urged the inductees to embrace the evolving profession with an unlimited mindset, he advised them to be unlimited in their ability to excel, collaborate, and make a lasting impact. He further encouraged them to share their field experiences, explore opportunities in hospitals and rehabilitation industries, and that they should not stop learning to improve.
The Acting Head, Department of Physiotherapy, Dr. Opeyemi Idowu, applauded the inductees for their resilience and hard work. He admonished them to cherish the highs and lows of their training, be team players, and uphold ethical standards as they positively represent the Redeemer’s University brand in their professional careers.
