The Head of Department, Department of Library, Archival and Information Studies, University of Ibadan & National Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Library Association, Dr Pius Olaojo, has said that the fear of many Librarians as regards losing their jobs to robots, machines and computers are very valid if they fail to adapt to the modern digital environment.

He made this assertion while delivering his presentation at the 43rd Annual Seminar/Workshop of the Nigeria Library Association (NLA)/ Cataloguing, Classification and Indexing Section, at the Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State with the theme: ‘Metadata Management and Quality Assurance in Linked Data Environment’.

He further challenged Librarians to make learning a lifelong habit and to continue adapting and growing as technology evolves with new inventions and discoveries. “Embrace knowledge with an open mind and arms, and be rest assured, machines, robots, and computers will not take our place as librarians.”

In conclusion, the workshop successfully enhanced participants’ understanding through insightful presentations on various topics, including Metadata Quality Control in Digital IR Management, the Future of University Libraries in Nigeria, Cleaning Up Your “Dirty OPAC with the Ballard List, Cataloguing Work in the Open Science Ecosystem, Metadata Management and Quality Control in Linked Data Environment, as well as Mentoring and Mentorship. These sessions significantly enriched the content and expertise of the attending librarians.
