About this programme

WHY CHOOSE THIS COURSE?

The course will give our students an in-depth understanding of how political power is distributed, the operations of government and its institutions. It will also decipher the participants in politics such as politicians,international organisations and the citizens and the processes of politics such as elections, governance, political institutions and public administration system.

OBJECTIVES OF THE COURSE

The department offers a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degree in political science covering the major sub-fields of the discipline. These include; international relations, public administration and comparative politics. This is complimented by rigorous study of certain thematic areas of political science namely; public policy analysis,democratic studies, federalism, election administration and development studies. This will enable our students have a good grasp of contemporary issues affecting Nigeria, the African Continent and the world. Apart from this, our students will also be equipped with the requisite tools to analyze and make logical conclusion on political issues.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Graduates of political science have opportunity to work as journalist, human resource managers and administrators in both public and private organizations, career diplomats or officials of international organisations and non-governmental organizations.

 

 
Admission Requirement

For admission to the 4-year programme in Political Science, candidate must possess the WASC/NECO/GCE (O/L) with a minimum of 5 credit passes in one sitting or 6 credit passes in two sittings. The credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Government or History and any other two subjects in Arts and Social Sciences.

Candidates applying to the Redeemer’s University are expected to sit for the admission year Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), and attain the National aggregate score. This is a statutory requirement for entry into Nigerian Universities. Candidates are required to apply for programmes of their choice by completing this year JAMB Registration Forms. They are to ensure that their UTME subject combination qualifies them for their chosen programmes.

In addition, candidates must complete online, Application Form of the University. No admission into the Redeemer’s University is possible without participation in the University screening exercise, and attainment of the required standard for admission into the University.

 

UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS (DIRECT ENTRY)

Candidates who wish to be considered for Direct Entry admission to pursue a three year degree programme are advised to contact the Department for necessary guidance on admission requirements.

Candidates must have passed at least two Social Science subjects or related subjects at HSC or GCE. A’ Level

National Diploma in Public Administration or related subjects with a minimum of Lower Credit

University Diploma in Public Administration, Law and other University Diploma related courses with a minimum of Lower Credit
