About this programme

Why choose Psychology as a discipline?

Psychology is a science and a profession that is concerned primarily with understanding human behaviours and mental processes for the purpose of solving individual’s problems in the society. The goals of Psychologists therefore are to understand, describe, predict and modify human behaviours.

Objectives of the programme

The main objective of the programme is to produce graduates with sound knowledge, skills and ability to predict, describe, understand and modify human behavior in any given environment and to effect the betterment of man in the society

Career Prospects

Psychology as a field of study has many specialized sub-fields such as Clinical, Developmental, Industrial/Organizational, Forensic, Educational, Social and Consumer Psychology.  Trained Psychologists can operate in every sphere of human endeavour.  Psychologist can serve or work in Health Institutions, Education Sectors, Commerce and Industries, Military and Paramilitaries and Correctional Institution.

 
Admission Requirement

For admission to the 4-year programme in Psychology, candidate must possess the WASC/NECO/GCE (O/L) with a minimum of 5 credit passes in one sitting or 6 credit passes in two sittings. The credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Biology and any other two subjects from Arts, Social Sciences and the Sciences.

Candidates applying to the Redeemer’s University are expected to sit for the admission year Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), and attain the National aggregate score. This is a statutory requirement for entry into Nigerian Universities. Candidates are required to apply for programmes of their choice by completing this year JAMB Registration Forms. They are to ensure that their UTME subject combination qualifies them for their chosen programmes.

In addition, candidates must complete online, Application Form of the University. No admission into the Redeemer’s University is possible without participation in the University screening exercise, and attainment of the required standard for admission into the University.

UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS (DIRECT ENTRY)

Candidates who wish to be considered for Direct Entry admission to pursue a three year degree programme are advised to contact the Department for necessary guidance on admission requirements.

Candidates must have passed at Credit Level in at least two Social Science subjects at HSC or GCE A’ Level

Registered Nurse Certificate or related courses with a minimum of Lower Credit.

NCE with minimum of a Merit pass in any Social Science subject

University Diploma with a minimum of Lower Credit in Social/Community Development, or Health Science related courses.
