Welcome message from Head of Department
The Department of Mathematical Sciences, Redeemer’s University has three programmes leading to the award of Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science, Industrial Mathematics and Statistics respectively. Our vision is to produce graduates who can be self-employed in addition to being gainfully employed and being able to compete effectively with their counterparts from other institutions in the world. The graduates of the department would have among other attributes strong analytical mind and high problem-solving skills built upon a background of competence in computer science, mathematics, statistics and allied sciences.
The department is endowed with a crop of seasoned, dedicated and caring academic and supporting technical staff who have fully adopted the latest technologies in lecture delivery rather than the traditional didactic approach. The staff -student ratio currently stands at 1:12; this figure makes interaction between staff and students very intimate and cordial; monitoring is easy and very effective. The department has three well-equipped laboratories with up-to-date compilers, integrated software development tools, Oracle DB and web design tools among others. The department also has mathematical and statistical software like SAS, SPSS, S-Plus, MATLAB, among others. We support teaching of digital electronics and hardware concepts with logic and digital trainers and microprocessors. Therefore, students of the department are exposed to courses with high content of practicals to enhance understanding and build competence and ability in theory, methodology and application.
We welcome you to our department and assure you that you will experience a fulfilling student life that will prepare you for a better future.
At the 5th university’s convocation ceremony held 12th October 2013, the 20-year-old, Computer Science graduate, Kehinde, Oluwatoyin Babaagba emerged the overall best graduating student in the university with a 4.96 Cumulative Grade Point Average and the second best graduating student in the history of the eight-year-old university. The Department produced the best overall graduating student ever in the history of the University in Oluwadare Ayomide of Computer Science Programme; she had a 4.97 Cumulative Grade Point Average at the 3rd University convocation held in October 2011. Reacting to an insinuation that it would have been difficult for her to obtain First Class in a public university, Kehinde says, “I can compete with anybody in any school. What makes one successful is not necessarily the school that one attended, but one's commitment to hard work. Again, with God on one's side, one will always stand tall.
Our alumnae have done the University Proud
Two of our alumnae. Miss Mayowa Ayodele and Miss Kunbi Adewojo, have both done the university proud when they respectively made good distinction in the MSc degree programme at Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen, Scotland; the feat earned each of them full postgraduate scholarship to pursue PhD degree in IT related fields at the university. Our students were constantly first or near first in competitions between universities at national and subnational levels
Professor J.O.A. Ayeni has recently joined the staff of the Computer Science programme in the department; Prof. Ayeni is one of the leading minds in Computer Science in Nigeria and African region.
