Friday, April 7, 2017 would continually be a date to be remembered in both the annals of Redeemer’s University and Tekena Tamuno Library. It was the day Tekena Tamuno Estates enacted the bibliophilic nature of their patriarch and first Chancellor of Redeemer’s University, Emeritus Professor Tekena Nitonye Tamuno by donating two copies each of  classic titles of three foremost Nigerian literature writers: Dr. J. P. Clark, Professor Wole Soyinka and Late Dr. Chinua Achebe.

The presentation was performed by the Tamuno matriarch and a doyen of librarianship, Mrs Olufunmilayo Grace Tamuno. She was accompanied by family, friends; her professional colleagues as well as spiritual children of the Tamuno dynasty.

Redeemer’s University was represented by the University Librarian, Dr. E. L. Adebayo and some pioneer library staff who were present when Mrs Tamuno was the University Librarian between 2005 and 2007.

In her presentation speech, Mrs Tamuno appreciated the University for honouring her late husband by naming the library after him. She reiterated that she and the entire Tamuno family intended to make Tekena Tamuno Library a unique Library where rare books collections would be found. She also promised to work with the present university librarian and subsequent ones to identify specific subject areas annually for which the family would donate books. Apart from the books donation, Mrs Tamuno also announced the donation of a brand new Sharp photocopying machine to Tekena Tamuno Library.

In his acceptance remark, the University Librarian, Dr. E. L. Adebayo thanked the Tamuno’s on behalf of Redeemer’s University. He expressed the vice-chancellor’s regret for being unavoidably absent at the presentation. He promised that the books would be well publicised to the University community for effective and efficient usage.

In his goodwill message, Chief Kolade Mosuro, of the Booksellers Ltd, joined the university librarian to appreciate Mrs O. G. Tamuno and her family. He enjoined the University to ensure that the books were judiciously used. He consented to supporting Mrs. Tamuno in her commitment to ensuring that the remaining titles by J.P. Clarke, Wole Soyinka and Chinua Achebe were collected and brought to Tekena Tamuno Library.

The occasion was graced by Professor Dele Olayowola of the Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan, Chief Kolade Mosuro, Dr. Mrs. Paulina Adeniji and Mrs Ogundola. The Tekena Tamuno Library Staff that attended were Dr. A. A. Adeleke, Mrs Pauline Adeniran, Miss M. A. Okoye, Mr Adeniran Daramola, Mr Gbenga Esan, Mrs Dupe Adefioye and Mr. Dele Adejumo.
