It was a pleasant surprise as the news broke that the Appointments and Promotions Committee (Academic Staff) at its 42nd Statutory Meeting held on 9th June, 2017 approved the recommendation for promotion of five academic staff members to the professorial cadre.

Three out of the five staff members were promoted from Reader to Professor. They were Professor Uchechukwu Vincent of the Department of Physical Sciences, who is also the Director of Educational Services and Training, Professor Adeleke Osho of the Department of Biological Sciences, who chairs the Student Disciplinary Panel, and Professor (Mrs) Adebola Adebileje of the Department of English, who is also the Dean of Humanities. Through her promotion, Mrs. Adebileje has made history as the first home grown female  professor at the Redeemer's University.

Dr. (Mrs.) Onikepe Folarin of the Department of Biological Sciences and Deputy Director at the Redeemer's University’s African Centre of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID) and Dr. Idowu Odebode, the head of the Department of English, were promoted from the Senior Lecturer position to Reader.

Since the announcement of their promotion, congratulatory messages have continued to pour in from both within and outside the University.  Many people believe that the promotions could not have come at a better time because of the policy of impact factor that was introduced to encourage productivity among the academic staff.
